New Music: Imagine Dragons - "I Bet My Life" [Full Audio / Review]
“I miss their rock-ish style”. I didn’t write this but “Lalajuicycake” on YouTube. And many other comments are on the same path. Indie-rock band Imagine Dragons released on Sunday midnight (Oct. 26) their brand new song “I Bet My Life” on iTunes and only a few hours later the audio was made available for limitless streaming on YouTube. The folk/country-esque “I Bet My Life” is the lead single from IE's upcoming second studio album (follow-up to 2012's "Night Visions") due in stores in February 2015 on Interscope Records/KIDinaKORNER.
This will be sent to US Alternative radio for adds on November 3rd, a report states. I wonder, though, how happy will these format radios be to play this folk/country tune?
“I Bet My Life” song review
“So I, I bet my life, I bet my life, I bet my life on you", sings Imagine Dragons' frontman Dan Reynolds in the chorus of the band’s new single that’s about a girl that's been given "hell" by his boyfriend but he still cares for her.
This is straight-up folk/country and not rock. Hardcore Imagine Dragons fans can hear "I Bet My Life" as much as they want, but this is going to still sound folk/country. Is it a risky move? Hell yeah. As I wrote at the beginning, many so-called “fans” aren’t loving the song at all, and others like YouTube user Ariel Ezra say: “It’s not their best song…but it’s not bad”. I kind of agree with Ariel. It’s not a bad song. I’m particularly not that fond of the chorus, and I’m really worried this is going to underperform on the charts. I could be wrong…but this is how I feel on the first listen. Hopefully Imagine Dragon’s next album will be eclectic genres-wise and not all folk-country. If “I Bet My Life” flops, they can just release a rock-ish song as second single before the album hits stores and that way save the era!
