New Music: Iggy Azalea (feat. MO) - "Beg for It" [Full Audio / Review]

iggy azalea beg for it cover

And here it is! The first single “Beg for It” from Iggy Azalea's forthcoming album "Reclassified" (re-release of "The New Classic") - in stores November 24th – has been released to iTunes today (Friday, October 24th) at 6am (ET). Co-produced by The Arcade & The Invisible Men and co-written by Iggy and Charli XCX, “Beg for It” is a mid-tempo rap-pop song featuring Danish rising singer where the message that is tried to be conveyed is: “here’s how you get a girl, boy…BEG!”.

During a concert last month at London’s Shepherd's Bush Empire, Iggy performed a minute of “Beg for It” and in the chorus section the female singing it was Charli XCX – co-write of the song. However, it seems Def Jam didn’t like the idea of a new Iggy + Charli collaboration happening too soon as it could steal the thunder of the 2014 major hit “Fancy”, so they urged Charli’s chorus to be replaced by a different female…the chosen one was RCA's MØ. But why then Iggy played the "old" version featuring Charli XCX in London last month you ask? Well, who knows! Either MØ recorded the new “Beg for It” version very last minute or simply Iggy didn’t care which version was played at her London show as it was only going to be a “preview”.

“Beg for It” song review

I'mma make you beg, I'mma make you beg for it”, sings MØ in the hook of “Beg for It”. You can totally TELL Charli XCX wrote this hook. It just screams Charli XCX and “Fancy” too. Iggy’s verses are dope as usual, the hook is cute, but I feel like the production is a bit underwhelming. It certainly could be better. I know Def Jam wanted to release “Beg for It” as the first "Reclassified" single because they’ve basically used the same “Fancy” DNA/formula for its creation, but I truly think Def Jam is playing a too safe/risky game. They should have released another song instead...one that doesn't sound so alike "Fancy". This is just going to mess with people's minds (not saying the song ain't kind of hot.)

But hey!...Iggy seems to be on a roll when it comes to successful singles. If her SNL performance of “Beg for It” tomorrow is amazing, and she shoots a killer music video, she could actually make “Beg for It” another monster hit. She just needs to WORK hard.

Hit or Miss?
