New Music: Bastille - "Bad News" [Premiere]
English rock band Bastille promised a brand new song to be premiered on Huw Stephens’s BBC Radio 1 show last night, August 13th, and that it happened. “Bad News” will be the b-side on the EP of Bastille’s upcoming single “Oblivion” - off their 2013 debut album “Bad Blood” – to be officially released in the UK on September 8th. Oblivion” is said to be the final single from the band’s critically-acclaimed first album which they re-released – re-titling it to “All This Bad Blood" - last November.
Bastille will be releasing their sophomore studio album in the first quarter of 2015, as confirmed by group’s frontman Dan Smith.
“Bad News" song review
“Bad News” ain’t better than "Oblivion" - for something it is a b-side - but it is nevertheless a great track. Deserving to have been on “All This Bad Blood", I’d say! The enigmatic-sounding rock mid-tempo hears Dan singing about not giving up only because there are hurdles on the way. “That it kicks you in the teeth when you are least expecting / Bad news / Don't turn your back on me”, sings Dan in the b-side track. It’s actually a positive record despite it’s very dramatic, and mellow melody.
