Nessi Gomes, Undoubtedly One of UK’s Best New Indie Talents: Stream Her Album “Diamonds & Demons”

nessi gomes diamonds and demons

Have you ever heard a record that was the unexpected product of an Ayahuasca session? Neither did I, until I heard last night the debut album by up-and-coming indie singer Nessi Gomes titled “Diamonds & Demons”, which she released only last week.

I just discovered this new artist and truth is that I am completely fascinated by her album, the first one she ever releases and it’s a project that already demonstrates an impressive maturity. “Diamonds & Demons” in a way lets you know the entire story of Nessi Gomes, a British singer-songwriter born from immigrant Portuguese parents in the small island of Guernsey, a UK territory located on the English Channel between France and England. Thanks to the right people, Nessi has managed to make her dream come true: to record her first ever full-length studio album titled “Diamonds & Demons”, whose origin is partially to thank to an intimate session with Ayahuasca, a brew made of leaves of a plant that only grows by the Amazon river, which literally makes you explore the deepest of your conscience. This “trip” through herself made Nessi remember lots of things about her past and this was the prime inspiration of several of the ten tracks that we can listen to on this album. Some of these songs tell the stories of some of the hardest episodes in Nessi’s life. For example, some deep child traumas or suicide attempts. However, Ms. Gomes compensates this dark songs with some other a little more optimistic, e.g “Into the Earth”, where she sings about the beauty of her home island, or “Long Way Home”, where she says “love is all there is”.

The sound of this album, “Diamonds & Demons”, is a tribute to Nessi’s heritage, where she mixes the legendary Portuguese ‘Fado’ with progressive British inspiration. A sort of folklore and indie hybrid sound that is truly a delicacy to the ears and provokes to wanting to hear it non-stop. If ayahuasca isn’t your thing, then worry not, simply listen to “Diamonds & Demons” and let Nessi take you to a place that you will undoubtedly love. Let her voice be your guide through the journey.

Two little curiosities: She recorded this album while traveling through London on the Regents canal inside a portable studio on a little boat and she has already performed at Glastonbury festival.
