Mary J. Blige Releases Disclosure-Produced Single "Right Now": Listen
Just a few days ago Mary J. Blige told The Guardian in an interview that “The UK is a better place to make music than the States”, in reference to a new album she had entirely recorded in the land of Queen Elizabeth. What we didn’t know nor was mentioned in the interview is that the first single from that album would come so fast! Queen of Hip-Hop & R&B Mary premiered the audio of “Right Now” on her YouTube page on Friday night (September 5th). No one was ready!
“Right Now” – produced by Disclosure and written by Sam Smith – is a departure from Mary’s signature R&B sound to embrace the electronic beats. Mary J. Blige’s vocals will always be R&B, but the sound of the Disclosure-produced “Right Now” is a novelty in Mary’s discography. Actually, this isn’t the first time Mary’s worked with the creators of this new song. She lent her voice to Disclosure for the vocal version of "F for You", and she teamed up with Sam Smith in the official remix for "Stay with Me". I guess we know now why those collaborations happened... Mary was returning favours!
“I'm telling you right now / No, I won't play this game with you”, sings Mary in chorus of her new single “Right Now”, off her upcoming album “The London Sessions”. Mary speaks of literally being a “fool” in love. She’s finally made up her mind, though, and she won’t be dealing with this boy’s foolery anymore.
I actually thought this would be a sacrilege to the legendary R&B image of Mary, but she doesn't sound too bad with the 'electro' beats!
