Promoting the upcoming January 16 premiere of the new season of American Idol, the four judges and host Ryan Secreast pose for the cover of the latest issue of 'The Hollywood Reporter', and there's a also a brief interview with each of them, from which we've extracted the most interesting quotes. On being approached to do American Idol:
Mariah: "I was on the fence about the whole thing". "I got approached by all the shows". "But he [Nick Cannon] said I should do it because it's the top, it's the cream of the crop. And I felt like, 'Do the show that's produced massive stars who have had major careers.' "
Nicki: "I had a lot of talks with people -- my family, my best friends, my label, Lil Wayne, management and then the producers". But in the end, it was Idol exec Mike Darnell who got the 'yes' out of her. "He was so lovable and made me feel so comfortable and confident.
