The return of Emeli Sandé at last.
The Scottish singer made her return official today (Sept. 16) when she released her new single “Hurts” on both Apple Music and Spotify.
“Hurts” will appear on Emeli’s forthcoming second studio album entitled “Love Love The Angels” (Virgin Records) - due in stores on November 11th.
On the concept of her new, Emeli said:
“I am no angel. These songs are stories of a very flawed human, but I hope in my honesty we may have a deeper connection and grow stronger, united together. Take note of colours in your dreams. Things aren’t as dark as they may seem. We are so powerful. I chose my side. No more gently gently. Love needs protected and fought for. More than ever. By any means necessary. LONG LIVE THE ANGELS!”
“Hurts” is a grandiose record where Emeli combines soul, rap and orchestral sounds. She serves vulnerable soul vocals on the chorus, she raps (or sings fast, whatever) on the verses, and lets the orchestral vibe (strings included) take over the production. The Scottish lady sings about being terribly “hurt” at a heart level by an unappreciative lover.
