New Music: Britney Spears x Giorgio Moroder - "Tom's Diner"

britney tome's diner

Britney Spears is covering Suzanne Vega’s 80s hit “Tom’s Diner” for Giorgio Moroder’s upcoming “Déjà vu” album (out June 12) and a 20-second snippet of the princess of pop’s personal rendition has just surfaced online.

While I’m still trying to digest Giorgio’s statement of “It was Britney who approached me to record something for my album” (sure it wasn’t the other way around, mister?), I am so here for new BS music. True she’s coming out with a new album and single very soon but our favorite Louisiana singer is just taking too long with those.

Was all of that vocoder, autotune, or whatever term you want to use for those manufactured vocals, really necessary? I mean, I’m a fan of the original song, and its unique storytelling theme, and I was really looking forward to hear Britney’s take of "Tom's Diner", but this snippet is getting me really worried. I don’t think all of that vocal editing was required.

Maybe when the hook kicks in everything will be amazing? I guess I’ll have to hold judgment until the full version premieres.
