Are Lana del Rey album releases going to be an annual thing now?

The American chanteuse, who has captivated people all over the world with both her beauty and ethereal vocals, is on this week’s cover of NME’s free magazine in the UK. In this latest issue, there’s inside an interview with Ms. Del Rey, and it is a must-read.

During the conversation with NME’s editor, the “Born To Die” star dropped a bomb in the form of an exclusive; that she’s already coming up with ideas for her next album, which would be the fifth of her career. Lana also took this “exclusive unveiling” moment to thank her record label, Interscope Records, for the unconditional support they have for her and them not pressuring her to meet any deadline, album releases-wise.

How long do you think you’ll wait until the next record? Any early thoughts on where you’d like to go with it?
“I do have early thoughts about what I’d like to do with it. My label, Interscope, is pretty flexible and open to my records coming out at any time, so I don’t have that pressure. I’m just happy to be able to keep on making music I can stand behind. That’s enough for me.”
If Lana is saying that her next album is already in the early stages it could mean that with a little luck fans can get a hold of this new Lana album, the official follow-up to “Honeymoon”, by the fourth quarter of 2016.

With respect to the theme and sound of her next album, although Lana hasn’t really confirmed anything yet, what you will read below might shed some light to what we can expect from LD5.

Your three Lana Del Rey albums have been very Californian in sound and imagery. But Lizzy Grant is from New York. Will you ever make a New York record?
“I feel like ‘Born To Die’ had a lot of New York in it because I was in New York leading up to the time that the record came out, except for the time I was in London while I was working on it. I find it very easy to go back and forth between a New York state of mind and a California way of being, so I could see me making another New York record. I think it would be different just because it would be a little harder, faster, more upbeat and less dreamy.”

NME’s editor asked Lana about the Californian sound of her last records and wondered if she ever wanted to get back to her “Lizzy Grant” roots and record more “New York” songs. And from her response, she’s totally on board making new “NYC” records.

The last part where she said “it would be a little harder, faster, more upbeat and less dreamy” totally got me excited. If “New York” records have all these adjectives, then she totally needs to get to the studio and record them ASAP. I truly believe the time has come for Lana del Rey to deliver something a bit more “radio-friendly” again (e.g: “Born to Die”, “Video Games”), given that “Honeymoon” has clearly gone into oblivion already.
