Lady Gaga has departed the US and has taken the media tour in support of her most recent new album “Joanne” overseas. Where, to be precise? To the Asian country of Japan, where there is a massive community of Little Monsters.

This Wednesday morning (Nov. 2) the NYC-born pop star appeared on the show Sukkiri to offer a live performance of “Perfect Illusion”, the lead single from the album “Joanne”, and to the surprise of everybody, including me, Lady Gaga didn’t deliver a “wild” performance of “Perfect Illusion”, something that can be expected considering the characteristics of the song, but the complete opposite. Mother Monster turned “Perfect Illusion” into an acoustic ballad and belted it acapella, only backing it up with her own skills with the piano. The performance was so intimate, raw and powerful that undoubtedly it is one of the best live performances so far in this “Joanne” era. Gaga’s vocals were so emotional and I feel like she gave literally her all that at one point I really thought she was going to burst into tears. By the way, this was the first televised performance of “Perfect Illusion” ever. Crazy, right?

After her amazing performance, Lady Gaga hit the main stage of Sukkiri to be interviewed by the show’s co-hosts. And although the simultaneous interpreting and the interview was messy at moments, the final result was fun and definitely a “Japanese TV experience” worthy of being watched.

Moral of the interview: Kissing and hugging is awkward in Japan.
