Icona Pop have debuted a new sound in their new single “Emergency”, the first official and real offering from the Swedish duo’s forthcoming second international album, and they’ve also given its recently-premiered music video a different spin to what we’re used to from BFFs Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo.

Icona Pop have said bye-bye to their EDM productions favoring now a more upbeat Europe folklore/saxophone-y sound. It’s still danceable music but I’m not too certain how willing will be club DJs to play Icona’s “Emergency”. Maybe a remixes EP would come handy, girls!. Also, as a global opinion of mine, I feel like this is a step back for the Swedish duo. They were loved for “I Love It” and its major clubb vibes and I don’t think changing styles so dramatically in the follow-up album is a good move.

As for the official “Emergency” music video, premiered last night (June 17) on YouTube, it shows the girls serving fashion-forward looks – kind of giving me “Bad Romance”/"Opulence" vibes for some reason – as they chant their new single and lose control of their bodies cause of the infectious beat in front of a steady camera.

What do you think of the video?
