Drama: Linda Perry Doesn’t Believe Lady Gaga Co-Wrote “Till It Happens To You”, Goes On Twitter Rant [Updated: Linda Backtracks!]
Linda Perry is trying to expose Lady Gaga.
The writer of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” – her only real global hit alongside Pink’s “Get The Party Started”, both from the very early 2000s (yeah, you could say she’s pretty much done now) – is directing a great amount of shade and hatred towards Lady Gaga.
It all started four days ago with this innocent tweet:
Congratulations to all nominees especially @Diane_Warren you wrote a beautiful song and @ladygaga gave a powerful performance.
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 14, 2016
You may think this sounds about right. However, look at her response last night when a follower pointed out the fact that “BOTH” Diane Warren and Lady Gaga officially wrote “Till It Happens To You” together.
@brunnopfvr no Diane did.. Now shoosh it.

Say what?
A quick recap: “Till It Happens To You” is an emotional ballad that was conceived for inclusion on the soundtrack of the 2015 documentary film, “The Hunting Ground”, which deals with campus rape in the United States. The legendary Diane Warren wrote a first draft of the song after watching an early screen of the documentary a year in advance to its world premiere in theatres. She then asked Lady Gaga to lend her vocals for the official version, as she thought Lady Gaga was fit for the role of singing, and truly connecting with “Till It Happens To You”, as she herself was a victim of rape. Prior to its official recording, Lady Gaga contributed with lyrical alterations to the original version. Diane Warren recognized this contribution by giving the “Applause” singer an official writing credit on the song. “Till It Happens To You” is now nominated in the category of “Best Original Song” for the 88th Oscar awards – to be held in late February.
The whole point of this Linda Perry shading Lady Gaga controversy is that she is refusing to believe that Lady Gaga is an official co-writer of “Till It Happens To You”. After responding to the follower’s tweet above, she then went on a rant on her official timeline after getting serious hate from the Little Monsters family.
I have Diane's original demo with her singing. The only line that has been changed "Till you're at the end, the end of your rope"
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Originally was "TIL YOU GOT A HOLE RIPPED IN YOUR SOUL". So I guess technically one line was changed so sure Gaga possibly "rewrote" a line
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
But chances are Diane still took part in rewriting that line which means Gaga contributed a few words. Is that writing? Not in my book.
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Hello? Who are you to tell what’s writing or not? You have the original demo? I don’t believe you. I bet she’s using this lie to try to escape from the heat of the LG fan base. Besides, even if it were true, Lady Gaga has been given a writing credit on “Till It Happens To You” by Diane Warren herself. And she is the only one in the end for this particular case and song with the right to decide what’s writing or not. If she opted to include Gaga on the writers’ list is because I’m sure Lady Gaga’s contribution to the song was bigger than what Linda Perry is saying.
However, the woman who betrayed Pink by giving Christina Aguilera “Beautiful”, kept on ranting on Twitter.
I love Gaga so much respect and love this song that has nothing to do with anything. Why did Gaga get credit? Maybe because ...
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Diane wanted to ensure her support in promoting the song. Gaga is a very smart business women she knew a song written by Diane Warren
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Would be up for an Oscar. And you know it's hard getting music out there and heard. Especially a song from a documentary , so Diane knew
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
If she gave Gaga writing credit it would ensure the support this song needed and deserved. And Gaga knows her power. I'm not putting anyone
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Or anything down. I'm stating the truth . I credit Diane for writing this song, it is her experience her pain her words. That's it kids.
— LINDA PERRY (@RealLindaPerry) January 18, 2016
Are you out of your mind? Diane Warren is a freaking consolidated songwriter and she doesn’t need to give Lady Gaga a writing credit (a very serious thing in the songwriters’ society) to “ensure” anything. She did so because Lady Gaga’s contribution to the lyrical content of the song was real. So please dear Linda Perry, go and have several seats right about now. You just make sure to cash your royalties checks for “Beautiful” and “Get The Party Started” at the beginning of each month and live a happy life. Don’t go out there trying to shade the work of other people – people who by the way do have enough talent to get an Oscar nomination. Uh-huh. Everyone knows that the reason why you have so much hate in your soul right now is because your song with Miley "Hand of Love" didn't get a nod. Girl, bye.
UPDATE: Linda Perry has backtracked on her comments! Victory for Team Gaga!
My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.
