Demi Lovato performed a private showcase on Tuesday night (Sept. 29) at the Highline Ballroom in New York City before a small group of lucky fans. The Universal Music-hosted event saw the New Mexico-born singer debuting the full version of her song “Stone Cold” live. This emotional ballad, which is said to be inspired by a period of time when Demi and boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama were constantly on and off, will appear on the singer’s upcoming fifth album “Confident”, due in stores on October 16th.

The song sounds powerful, it probably means a lot to Demi, but I don’t think it will be one of my favorites from “Confident”. I’ll probably give it a couple of listens, get somewhat emotional, but that’s it. Don’t think I’ll be wanting to hear it more than twice. As for Demi’s performance of “Stone Cold” in NYC last night, I think she was a bit too “aggressive” with her vocals from time to time, probably because the song is indeed too personal too her, and made it feel a bit too “screechy”, but as the overall she “sold” the song really well, and she demonstrated that she has a range, and a powerful voice – but she needs to keep working on the control.

Demi also performed "Cool for the Summer" in acoustic mode and a cover of Hozier's "Take Me To Church" at the Highline Ballroom. Watch clips below.
