Charli XCX Covers Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" On BBC Live Lounge: It's PUNK Perfection!

Charli XCX caught a very long flight from L.A to London to be today (Feb. 10) on BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge”. And even though she was probably tired as hell, and dreaming of flying beds, the British singer-songwriter still sounded like an angel and smashed her “Live Lounge” acoustic set.

During the Fearne Cotton-hosted radio show, Charli XCX first performed an acoustic rendition of her newest single “Doing It” and after a couple of minutes of commercials, and an extra few minutes of random songs playing on Radio 1 (Fearne said she had to give Charli XCX a bit more time to rehearse as she had JUST landed in London), the “Boom Clap” star was ready to deliver her acoustic performance of the contemporary song she had chosen as her “mystery cover”. What did she do? “Shake It Off” by TAYLOR SWIFT!!!

OMG. This pop-punk version of “Shake It Off” is just to die for.

I didn’t really foresee “Shake It Off” to sound so good in a punk-y way. The melody change was fantastic, the rowdy vocals were clever, the “hey, hey” cheerleader-y adlibs by the backup singers were so-right, and overall, Charli XCX just killed it! I’mma need to see her to do a punk version of another contemporary song soon!

Update: "Doing It" performance added below.
