Barefoot Kelly Clarkson Slays Rihanna’s “Stay” Cover On Tour: Watch
Queen of everything music, Kelly Clarkson, made a stop in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania on Sunday (July 19) as part of her “Piece by Piece Tour”. The original American Idol performed before a 20,000-plus crowd at First Niagara Pavilion. There, during the “fan request” section where Kelly performs a cover picked by a member of her fandom, our beloved “Miss Independent” blessed everyone with a marvelous rendition of Rihanna’s “Stay” hit, from the Barbados singer’s 2012 “Unapologetic” album.
Kelly has covered Rihanna plenty of times in the past. She’s done covers of “Princess of China”, “We Found Love” and most recently she did “Bitch Better Have My Money” for the “Live Lounge” sessions of BBC Radio 1.
This was the first time she did “Stay” and I think it’s quite honest to say she killed it. Did she improve the original? I think she did. Her whole performance was outstanding but I was especially moved during the last 30 seconds. That’s how you EMOTE, people!
