Album Review: Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" is OUT!

Christina Cover

Pop diva Christina Aguilera returns to the music scene with a brand new album four years after her latest effort "Back 2 Basics" (2006), an ambitious double CD project consisting of 23 songs in total. That LP was number one in several countries in the world, it was Christina's second number one album of her career and also received the accolade of having the second biggest first week sales by a female artist in 2006, only beaten by Beyonce's "B'day". However, although obtaining excellent critics, the album failed singles-wise. "Ain't No Other Man" only peaked #6 in America, and the next singles "Hurt" and "Candyman" peaked lower positions. The album was then abandoned, so Christina focused on her World Tour. For this reason, Ms Aguilera has decided to re-invent herself once again. She's bringing the electronic and futuristic sound into her life with a feisty spirit, but not forgetting of delivering stunning ballads. This is "Bionic".

1. "Bionic" - Many people have said, "this sounds like Santigold stuff". Indeed seems Christina has let that style get inside the verses of this song but take it just as an experimental borrowing. No matter what, the result is amazing. The electro feeling is great. Festive.

2. "Not Myself Tonight" - The album's first official single. An explosive song that from listen one was of the like of many. It has "Dirrty Christina is back" written all over it. Sexy, and club banger. Sad that general audience did not support it and now it's a fail single.

3. "Woohoo" - Rapper Nicki Minaj scores yet another collaboration, this time with pop diva Christina Aguilera. Poppy and sassy song with implicit sexual lyrics. I read somewhere a funny alternative title "The Vagina Monologues". LOL. "Woohoo" is fun song but by no means this should be a single.

4. "Elastic Love" - Pure electronic experiment with a wide range of robotic synth sounds being showcasted. I think Xtina went a little too far with this song. Not liking it that much.

5. "Desnudate" - BEST UPTEMPO SONG on the entire album. This is destined to be a smash hit if promoted correctly. It has that latin flavor in it which I like, but some of the Spanish verses chosen are way too tacky as a Spanish-speaking person. Come one, "damelo duro, me tienes tan mojada". Err. Anyway, LOVING the song. I pray this gets single treatment.

6. "Glam" - One of the most anticipated songs to hear from the album. Quite a good deal of information regarding this track was leaked to the internet months ago, and some people were quoated as having heard the track. "Glam" did not impress me on the first listen. Chorus is good, but verses bore me a bit.

7. "Prima Donna" - Hot production. I'm getting a "Fighter" feeling in this one. Great vocals, and interesting lyrics. "I'm a Prima Donna, I can rule the world" Go Christina!

8. "Sex for Breakfast" - Lovely ballad. Calmed vocals. I find the metaphors used in this track quite cool. Reminds me of "Get Mine, Get Yours".

9. "Lift me Up" - TIME STOPS when I listen to this track. Such a great and beautiful song. I have to admit I had my doubts about this song since I heard the live version months ago (Haiti event), but the final production is stunning. Love the few electronic bits they added. Christina delivers mind-blowing vocals.

10. "All I Need" - Cute ballad but not Christina's best. I liked it for a few days, now I just skip it.

11. "I Am" - Wow, wow, wow. Such an epic and innovative ballad. Loving the very short but straightfoward verses, with clever lyrics. Delicious song.

12. "You Lost Me" - Time stops again! Another stunning ballad. Mad props to Christina's vocal control in this one. And what voice this girl has. Love the explosion towards the end.

13. "I Hate Boys" - Apparently the next single off "Bionic". Bad choice IMO. It has a retro feeling, uptempo. But lyrics are dumb. This is totally something Ke$ha would sing. Really, put on more pop-electronic sound, some auto-tune and it's so ke$ha material.

14. "Vanity" - This is like a "bitch" anthem lol. The lyrics are...funny cool I would think. Melody is catchy, and overall good song I guess. I do think it is a nice way to close the album.
